Mesterolone (Proviron) is structurally very similar to DHT (dihydrotestosterone), the androgenic metabolite of testosterone. The small but subtle difference is that mesterolone has an additional methyl group and not DHT. This methyl group makes mesterolone a very mild steroid. So mild that oral levels of 75 to 150 mg per day, according to studies from the 70s, have only insignificant effects on the body’s own testosterone production. At the same time, the 1-alpha methyl group inhibits certain enzymes that neutralize mesterolone in the body. For this reason, this anabolic steroid can also be used orally. Most steroid manuals in circulation say that mesterolone is too mild for male steroid users. In the past, the substance was used as an anti-estrogen, but this was not really successful. With even less success, it was used to revive the body’s own testosterone synthesis after a cure.
